Captian Kenneth J. Lee
Military Bio | Beginning in the Marine Corps: 1981
In 1981, Kenneth J. Lee made the decision to enlist in the United States Marine Corps straight out of college, seeking a challenge that would test his grit and determination. He attended boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, often referred to as becoming a "Hollywood Marine" due to its location.
After successfully graduating from boot camp in April 1981, Ken went on to aviation school in Millington, Tennessee. During his time in training, Ken was given the opportunity to select the type of aircraft he wanted to specialize in. Though he was unfamiliar with the different helicopter models, Ken chose the CH-53 Sea Stallion, a heavy-lift helicopter used for transport and various combat operations.
Although boot camp presented physical and mental challenges, one junior drill instructor took a particular dislike to Ken, pushing him to his limits in an effort to break his spirit. However, Ken’s resolve only grew stronger, and he refused to let anyone or anything force him to quit. Quitting was not a word in his vocabulary.
